Explaining iOS 6 and the SHSH Myth

by Costea Lestoc on February 20, 2013

I have noticed lately a lot of questions about SHSH‘s and the possibility to downgrade from iOS 6.1.x versions to lower versions of iOS 6 or even iOS 5, and while a few months ago we reported details of changes made by Apple, I will speak again about it. For starters I can say that SHSH’s are unnecessary since iOS 6 if you have a terminal launched after the iPhone 4, meaning iPad 2, iPad 3, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad Mini, iPad 4, iPod Touch 5G. In none of these terminals you may not get downgrade from iOS 6.1.x to iOS 6.x or lower versions, except iPad 2 which allows it only if you have saved SHSH for iOS 5.x and iOS 4.x.

iPhone 4 And Their Unlock Solution

by Costea Lestoc on June 14, 2011

Today Apple has included in their own online store from U.S., unlocked iPhone 4 GSM devices. Apple sells iPhone devices for four years but never offered in the U.S. the unlocked version of the most popular smartphone on the planet. Until today (probably) Apple had an exclusive contract with the U.S. operator AT&T, so that all iPhone devices were sold in the U.S. coded in the AT&T network regardless of where they were purchased. Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 to Unlock iOS 4.3.1 older baseband

by iPhone Users on April 10, 2011

The iPhone Dev-team just released ultrasn0w 1.2.1, an updated version of ultrasn0w. However, this updated version only fix compatibility issue on iOS 4.3.1 for older baseband (baseband 01.59.00), not for unlock 02.10.04, 03.10.01, 04.10.01

We have pushed out the 4.3.1 compatibility fix for ultrasn0w in Cydia — it is now at version 1.2.1. If you are not already at 4.3.1 and you need the unlock, please be sure you understand how to get to 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW that does not update your baseband. There are lots of guides for this (like at iClarified.com).

This is not a new unlock! It is to allow those who are already using ultrasn0w to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who are not using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally.

AFTER INSTALLING ULTRASN0W 1.2.1, PLEASE REBOOT YOUR iPHONE using the normal “slide to power off” swipe. T-Mobile users in the USA also should disable 3G mode in Settings->General->Network.

A big thanks to @sbingner and @ronaldsb for helping with the testing of this update!

Download redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc12.zip

by iPhone Users on April 9, 2011

The iPhone Dev-Team just released redsn0w 0.9.6 RC12 for Windows and redsn0w 0.9.6 RC12 for Mac. In redsn0w 0.9.6 RC12, Dev-Team put boot animations. They previously released redsn0w 0.9.6 RC11, but still there are some issues with boot animation on some devices, so they released a fixed version, which is redsn0w 0.9.6 RC12

Here is the official blog post by Dev-team.

Update #1:

Those running redsn0w may have noticed we enabled too many Settings options in some versions of the jailbreak (for instance, what you want your side switch to do, even if you have no side switch because you’re not using an iPad). Release rc10 of redsn0w corrects that (you can just run it over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

Along the way, we’ve also added the option to enable boot animations…these animations can be installed via Cydia, but be sure to select which animation to use via the Settings->Bootlogo setting after you’ve downloaded an animation (and again, you can just run rc10 rc12 over your existing jailbreak…be sure to de-select Cydia to avoid package conflicts).

(The boot animation we tested against was “Android Boot Logo”. It correctly installs all the dependencies needed to run the animation at each boot).

So, if you want to “Allow boot animation” in redsn0w, but you already have jailbreak your iDevice, make sure that you de-select “Install Cydia” option on redsn0w, select “Allow boot animation” option, then re-jailbreak your iDevice.
