The iPhone 5, the new iPod Touch and iPod Nano made use of a new type of connector that is the Lightning dock connector. It replaced the 30-pin dock which was initially introduced in 2003. However, unlike the old dock connector, the new one has a circuitry that is a lot more complex than the old one.
