This tutorial will guide you how to update your iPhone software to the latest version.
1. Open iTunes.
2. Connect iPhone to computer using its USB cable.
3. iTunes will detect a newer version of your iPhone software.
There are three options:
- Cancel: This option will cancel the iPhone software update
- Download and Install: This option will download and install the iPhone software update automatically.
- Download Only: This option will only download the iPhone software update without install it to iPhone. But, you can install the downloaded iPhone software update later.

Like Mac OS X, from which it was derived, it uses the Darwin foundation. iPhone OS has four abstraction layers: the Core OS layer, the Core Services layer, the Media layer, and the Cocoa Touch layer. The operating system takes less than 240 Megabytes of the device’s total memory storage.
3.x.x = The new version that available for update.

What is baseband iPhone ?

4. Scroll down the screen and find the modem firmware text. The numbers next to it is a version of the baseband on your iPhone.
