How to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 by using Limera1n.
What’s limera1n? It‚Äôs a bootrom-level jailbreak that works on the iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, the iPad, and (technically) the AppleTV 2G.
Limera1n is untethered jailbreak. So, you won’t have any problem each time your iPhone reboots. Limera1n also supports hacktivation. So, If you had error The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported due to iOS 4.1 update, you can fix this problem by jailbreak your iPhone by using limera1n.
Here is the guide how to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch by using limera1n:
1. Connect your iPhone to computer.
2. Download limera1n from http://limera1n.com or simply click the link below:
Download limera1n for Windows
Download limera1n for Mac
3. Once you have downloaded limera1n.exe OR limera1n.zip, simply double-click to run the application.
4. Click “make it ra1n” and it will put your iPhone into recovery mode. Let the process running until limera1n ask you to do the next step.
5. In this step, you will be shown to put iPhone into DFU mode. Limera1n will ask you to hold home + power button on iPhone for about ten seconds, or until limera1n ask you to release power button. When the limera1n says in DFU mode…wait, you can release the home button and let the whole process running.
6. Once done, a pop-up will appear and saying that jailbreak on your iPhone is done.
Now, you can turn on your iPhone and you will see limera1n app icon on iPhone.
Tap limera1n app to launch it. Select Cydia package and tap Install to start downloading & installing cydia on iPhone.
Once the process has finished, you will have Cydia installed on iPhone. If you don’t know how to run cydia for the first time, please read this guide: How-to Install Cydia

I ran lime…seemed to run thru but I am still stuck on the Sim Card not Supported on itunes, any ideas? I am using a 3gs that is using a custom ISPW of 4.1. I tried restoring back to 3.1.3 but can't – cydia wont load on my 3.1.3.

Are you sure about your firmware version?
It doesn't work with custom IPSW. Can't downgrade the firmware version if you haven't save the SHSH Blobs.

I just tried to jailbrake my iPhone 4 by Limera1n. The first 6 steps went correct, but when my turned my iPhone on, I could only make my emergancy calls. When I opened iTunes, I still get the same message "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."
What went wrong and what can I do??

Now, this is getting a bit annoying cos there should be a fix for this. My wife for some reason upgraded her iphone 3G phone to the latest FW 4.2 (yeah, i know) whilst having an unsupported t-mobile SIM and she's stuck in restore mode (Wire + Itunes logo). Bad thing is that the phone's shsh is not stored on Saurik's server so unable to downgrade, tried restoring with custom ipsw, changes hosts file back and forth (the whole drill) currently stuck at the SIM card not not suppported message. Funny thing is that after little luck, i decided to restore to 4.2 again but this time with my 02 official contract SIM but still get the same issue. Any ideas anyone?

If it says NO SIM, it would be different case, I guess. Have you tried different SIM?

Oh by the ways, the tray of SIM card used to be stucked and I took it out then the tray broke. The old owner told me that she used to put the safety pin/drawing pin in it. Could be it the case?
Yes, I'm sure they sim tray is the main problem. Such problem is not related to software, but hardware-problem.
I have tried and tried this and it keeps getting stuck at release power button. By the comments i have just read, i'm guesn this isn't gona work… It's not rocket science. A few simple instructions an it still doesnt work. Thats sayin a whole lot to me. I cant find a real working program anywhere on the internet.

You should learn to put your iPhone into DFU mode first.

Dead risk always exist, even if you did nothing to your iPhone. Be sure to do the steps correctly. In case there is any mistake, simply restore your iPhone firmware.
Back-up your important data is always a must.

people you just hold the power plus home button in start. After few seconds it will ask you you to release the power button so release the power button but still hold the home button, after some time dfu mode will be on.

Guys, if your phone went off and will not turn on, try doing a home+power press for about 10 secs. It will usually turn on.
