4. Once download finished, right click the blackra1n.exe and click Open. If you cannot see the Downloads window, you can press CTRL+J on keyboard to show it (Firefox).
Click Ok if you asked to Open executable file.
5. Click make it ra1n button to start the process.
- Then, your iPhone is entering recovery mode.
- You will see a picture of Geohot (blackra1n’s creator) on your iPhone.
- Done, wait for reboot
- A pop-up message will appear

I have a 2G iphone which was at 1.1.4 firmware. I tried to upgrade to the latest i.e. 3.1.2.
i followed all the steps in tutorial to first upgrade the firmware to 3.1.2 and then jaibreak it. the result was that i could see that the iPhone rebooted and i could see the home screen, but No SIM seems to work. It shows either "No Service" or a signals bars at its minimum.
Can somebody help me on what is the issue? below is the detail on the iphone after the entire process.

After clicking make it rain and entering recovery is done it pops up the: enjoy your jailbroken iphone window. and after clicking ok the Iphone gets back to the screen that says plug it into Itunes where you can slide for emergensy call. And the itunes loads and then it says insert the supported sim card. But the blackrain screen is stuck at done, wait for reboot. I followed this guide as good as I can. Sorry about my grammar.

this occurred to me too, but as i figured it out, my phone was running on 3.0.1 version, and when i tried to jailbreak it with this tutorial(blakrain), an error message in the itunes will pop up, and the blakrain will stuck at"done, wait for reboot.. if your firmware version is 3.1.2, there should be no problem jailbreaking it with this, i have done it 3x and it ran so smooth.. i just opted to downgrade to 3.0.1 version because blacksnow cant unlock my phone because there was a conflict in baseband version of mine which is 4.04.05..now its working, jailbreaken and unlocked!! just keep on reading you will learn how to… list down ur iphone specs…
we have the same unit of iphone, i accidentally upgraded to 3.1.2 version, you can jailbreak it with blackra1n but you cant unlock it with the snow package embedded in the said software…even if you try redsnow 0.8 you'll get frustrated. redsnow0.8 cannot unlock and jailbreak 3.1.2 ipsw…you should downgrade your firmware version to 3.0.1 >>> you must first download the 3.0.1 ipsw for 2G iphone at <<>> and then intall it to your iphone using shift+restore on the itunes window by selecting the file you have downloaded on your computer..your iphone will be restored to firmware 3.0.1 version… download the redsnow 0.8, and the bootloader BL 3.9 and BL 4.6…. Hi, I used blackra1n and it really helped get me out of the sim card compatibility issue and all but now some of the things on my iphone have dissappeared for instance i have no network now and my carrier (previously displayed before at the top of the screen with network signal bars) are gone. There is a constant one bar signal now and my phone can neither recieve or send messages, calls and other things that neeed a network.
Also under SETTINGS, the options of CARRIER and NOTIFICATIONS are gone. Under the GENERAL and then NETWORK options, the settings for CELLULAR DATA NETWORK has also disappeared.
All these thing existed on my iphone before using blackra1n and before updating. PLEASE HELP ME….

i tried the blackra1n and:
- firstly it didn’t ask me where to save the file it automatically saved it in Downloads file;
- secondly, when I ran the file it showed everything above except the pic of geohot and now i just have a black screen on my iphone with the backlight on and it’s been this way for about a half hour

Your baseband version has updated as well, which is not yet unlockable. All you need to do is waiting until the new software to unlock baseband 05.12.01 released.

The only problem is that everytime I restart the iphone, the connect to itunes screen comes up and won't go back to the home page until I plug the phone into itunes and blackra1n runs. Hi! My uncle got me this iPhone, too. It's from US. And I accidentally updated my iPhone, too. It was locked. If you are somewhere near Alabang Town Center there is an iPhone repair/unlocking (also jailbreaking) shop there. I went there and they fixed it. It cost me 500php though. But it's cheaper compare to other shops in other places/malls. But it also depends on firmware. 3.1.3 is still unlockable. But they can downgrade it for you to unlock it. Hope I helped.. :) (sorry, I dunno how to fix this my self)

hello , i need your help!! i bought a second hand 3G 16gb iphone , and it was already uploaded with Isos 4 . blackra1n cannot jailbreak iOS4. You can use redsn0w 0.9.5b5-1 instead.
Everytime i try to do this i dont see the logo or anything. It just goes to a black lit up screen for about 20 minutes or longer then goes completely black. Help please?

Right Click and click on " Open With "
And Browse for Blackra1n Then when you open blackra1n it will work as it has before

I have a 3G (Not aware of firmware or anything) 16 GB phone and it was unlocked when i took it from one of my friend. I got a prompt in itunes to update the software and i did that but since then it is stuck at Emergency Calls only. I don't have an AT & T sim to unlock it as i am using this phone in India. I tried using blackra1n but it gives me an error message "ASL.dll" not found. Please suggest the way to activate this phone. I am using windows with Internet Explorer. Total nightmare! I restored my iphone (which I only use as an ipod) and afterwards it was stuck on the "Connect to iTunes screen" with the only option being that to make an emergency call. I researched online and decided that jailbreaking it was my only hope. I downloaded blackrain, even saved it in the Apple Folder like it suggested. Now…I ran blackrain, got all the way to the "done, wait for reboot" sign and my iphone is frozen to the "Connect to iTunes"screen. I forced a reboot by holding down the off/on and home buttons and it still can back to that screen. Everytime I ran blackrain iTunes popped up saying No Sim detected, unplug. What am I doing wrong? Somebody help me! Is it because there HAS to be a SIM card inside? I took it out because it was messing up my music library. Any advice?!?!?!?

first download itunes then restore to latest version..if u using 2g make sure .. u restore to 3.1.2 firmware… to chk ur firmware .. chk properties on iphone when it appears in my computer… if in case u restored to 3.2.3 ..then dwnload 3.1.2 from internet save it to desktop.. n downgrade it by clicking Shift+ restore .. n browse fr 3.1.2 file (ipsw) n then restore.. n then jailbreak using blackrain..
dwnloading the firmware takes really long .. cz its like 270 mb files. but jb is fast

N save it in c drive common files apple software update folder n access it from dr run it as administrator n in compatibility select windows me .. Run blackrain .. Nw it shud jailbreak .. iPhone 2G does support 3.1.3 firmware.
How can you lost your data?
iTunes should have backup and after jailbreak, you will be asked to setup as new phone or restore previous backup.
Right click your iPhone on iTunes, click restore backup, you should have your data back.

hey ya so i did all the steps but the picture of the guy or wateva didnt show! HELP!
after i downloaded the prog it didn't open and said "this application has failed to start bcoz ASL.dl was not found"
it doesnt open to my laptop and i failed to save in iPhone as shown

Alas, no joy here: I wanted to recycle my wife's old (and I mean really old: series 1 or "G1") iPhone as a remote for my stereo (via WLAN at home).
Upgraded the beast to the latest firmware offered for this type by iTunes (v3.1.2 (or was it 3.1.3 – don't recall). After doing so, the iPhone would not start up normally but demand to be attached to iTunes. When doing so, all I ever get is iTunes telling me that "TheSIM card … does not appear to be supported.".
I then even went out and bought a cheap prepaid card, which according to our provider should work in an iPhone.
I then googled around and found this explanation. Got blackra1n.exe to work (had to first work around the "ASL.dll not found" issue), but even though blackra1n always claims, that the phone is now jailbroken, it still demands to be attached to iTunes and the cycle starts over. %$#@*& Apple! :-(
I assume, something goes wrong in the process. After "entering recovery" I immedately see "done, wait for reboot". I never see any picture (nor any other message or reaction) on the iPhone.
Any other ideas or suggestions how free this iPhone?

i updated my iphone 3g having firmware 3.1.2 to firmware version 4.2 through itune. now my iphone is locked showing itune logo and usb cable. i tried to jailbreak using redsnow but it is not working. please help me finding out solution.
Hey my screen stays in black, and it appears a message in itunes that i i dont reset the iphone it wont recognize it or something like that and the picture of geohot doesnt appears
HELP the make it rain tab disappears after i click on it and the face does not appear on my iphone. it does not reboot and the slide for emergency still remains

I have an iPhone 3g 16 GB, bootrom 5.8, firmware 3.1.2, baseband 6.15, and I have tried jailbreaking it with blackra1n. Few moments ago I was literally stuck at the "Slide for emergency call" screen, meaning that I couldn't use the slide, and the lighting animation effect on the letters was stuck, and now I'm stuck on the main screen, it says "Slide to unlock", but it is still locked! I can't use any of its functions, only the sleep/home buttons to reboot it. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? What should I do?
(p.s. Nothing appears on the upper left corner, where the "Locked SIM" text should be.)
