The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported

Most people will see this problem after restore iPhone software or Update iPhone software.
And then, when the iPhone connected to the computer, iTunes says:

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.

Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone.
Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit supported Carrier’s store
to receive a replacement SIM card.

If your iPhone is not Factory Unlocked (FU), but you are using unofficial SIM card in the iPhone, you will get this message after restore/update iPhone software, unless you either insert compatible sim cards or continue read this post.

So, how to fix “The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported” error on iTunes?

iTunes showing this error because your iPhone is requiring activation.

- A simple solution to fix this incompatible sim card issue is: jailbreak the iPhone with software that support hacktivation.
On 3rd November 2009, Hacktivation support was added into blackra1n’s improvement.
Hence, you can resolve the sim card issue on iTunes by reading Tutorial Jailbreak iPhone 3.1 Firmware using blackra1n

If the error still occurs even though your iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked, you may try these tips:
- If your iPhone software was update accidentally, try to put iPhone into DFU mode, restore/update your iPhone software/firmware/OS with shift and restore method, then re-jailbreak it.

- In rare case, you might be able to resolve this problem by updating the unlocker app (i.e. ultrasn0w, blacksn0w) which was used to unlock your iPhone.

iTunes syncing was working after unlocked, and active with another carrier.

It is still unlocked I am able to place and accept calls, but its not syncing.

It gives this error. I don’t know where my old att sim is.

The weird thing is that the other day, all my apps got alphabetized.

My problem is that I got an Iphone from a friend. And after reinstalling it, I cant get in to it. It says that I need a supported sim card. So I can’t use it at all.

I have tried thousands of times jailbreaking it by using Blackra1n. But I can’t complete it because I need the supported Sim card.

      Did you successfully jailbreak it?
You don’t need supported SIM card to jailbreak, simply run blackra1n, then “supported sim card” error on iTunes will be dissappear.

Hi there. I have an iphone 3G Modem firmware 02.28.00
It was jailbroken for me in UK when brand new(I don’t know which prog was used but I have Cydia and Installer). I am abroad now for a year and not going back to UK straight away so I need help here if you can. I have never updated the phone software again after that. Never had any problems until today. As usual, had my MacBook software update done(iTunes was updated too – maybe that is the problem?) and then connected my iphone. Got the message “SIM is not supported blah, blah, blah…” The phone is working fine otherwise. Calls, texts and everything else are not affected. The only thing is that I can’t update my music, pics and calendars. Please advise what to do. Should I update my iphone Modem firmware? I know that newer software is better but I am worried that I won’t be able to do everything correctly and might block my iphone to “unusable” state. All I want is a minimum of changes – just to get the iphone to upload music, pics and calendars. If you believe that I should update the Modem firmware – I really want to have all the latest features – please tell me how and what firmware to update to(what’s unlockable now?), what programs to use and everything else.

I would really appreciate your help with this.

    Cheers!

Hi Siaerhei, you can update your iPhone 3G software without problem.
It was unlockable by using blackra1n, also hacktivate your iPhone so you can sync musics, videos, etc to your iPhone.
However, upgrading your iPhone software will affect to apps on your iPhone. Some apps may not work if it doesn’t have updated version for the new firmware.

Thanks for that Ryan. However I am not sure it was blackra1n. Redsn0w or something else… How do I update my jailbroken unlocked iphone with new firmware? Which firmware to use? And how to unlock it again to any SIM?

    Cheers
