SemiRestore Allow Us To Re-restore Our iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Basically if you have an iPhone 3GS/4/4S/5 an iPad 2/3/4/Mini or iPod Touch, you have iOS 5.0 – iOS 6.1.2 and have already jailbroken your terminal, then you could do a partial re-restore only on the version that you have in your terminal without using SHSH. iPhones that doesn’t have jailbreak cannot use SemiRestore, doesn’t matter what version of iOS have, and if your terminal is not included in the aforementioned boundaries, then the solution will not work under any circumstances, so do not bother to ask.

Okay, you are “qualified” to do the restore, now you are probably wondering what is happening. Well Semi Restore procedure removes almost all from your device: applications from the App Store and the information in them, plus most of the Cydia tweak, except application Cydia, iFile and jailbreak. Basically SemiRestore doesn’t make a full restore, does not erase all the data, lets some of them, but before using the solution it is advisable to make a backup of all data because you will have to copy them back to the terminal.

Semi Restore is presented as a safe solution to make a partial restore, you will not actually reinstall your operating system, you will not change any baseband/etc, and as soon as it is available I will explain the method by which you can effectively make a partial restore.

Smartphones Sales In The First Quarter: Android vs iOS

IDC released smartphones deliveries figures from the first quarter of this year, they gave the domination to Android platform, but also the iOS leap on the second position of the stack.

In the first three months of this year, Android phone manufacturers shipped 162.1 million pieces, an increase of nearly 80 percent over the same period last year, when they were delivered to 90 million pieces. These figures place first among Android smartphone software platforms, with a market share of 75 percent landslide. A year ago, Android was only 59.1 percent of sales.

Apple’s sales increased to 37.4 million units, marking a jump of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. iPhones ranks second place with a market share of 17 percent, but losing market share compared to the first quarter of last year, they represented nearly a quarter of the sales.

Windows Phone platform managed to get to the third place, displacing BlackBerry products. In the first three months of this year, Microsoft operating system run on 7 million of new terminals, representing 3.2 percent of the market, while BlackBerry has managed to sell only 6.3 million units and settle for four. A year ago, Microsoft had a market share of only two percent, while BlackBerry ranked third with 6.4 percent.

On the free fall is the defunct Symbian platform, which reached a market share of 0.6 percent from the 6.8 percent recorded a year ago, while various Linux platforms are also down slightly.

iTunes 11.0.3 Was Released by Apple – See Its Features

During this evening Apple released iTunes 11.0.3, a new version of which iTunes Store can be accessed and through it you can manage multimedia content. The new version brings a new MiniPlayer application for listening to favorite songs, it displays the album artwork and the running tracks progress. Apple also improves the menus in which we see the available tracks from iTunes and implemented support for multi-disc albums.

The new version of iTunes can be downloaded via the OS X and Windows Software Update, or from the Company website.

The famous hacker MuscleNerd says that the new service address to no less than 40 bugs and vulnerabilities. CVE or Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures are reported to Apple by various people, or discovered by its employees, they are made public and are repaired by updates. Given that Apple has solved so many problems, it is clear that Apple’s security team had quite a lot of work in the recent months and we can wait for such things in iOS 7.

In iOS 6 Apple has implemented ASLR for securing the operating system, a jailbreak solution has been developed anyway, but for iOS 7 we should expecte to improve security measures of our iPhone since they started to be used in high institutions from U.S. and beyond.

Google I/O Raises The Bar For WWDC 2013

Last evening Google held Google I/O, a 3:00 conference that Google has presented numerous updates to its services, and a new product. Markets reacted positively to Google news, the company’s shares for the first time exceeded $900 and the value of market capitalization passed 300 billion. Google stunned in a pleasant enough news for many people with Google Maps, Google Now, with the launch of Hangouts application, implementing new service for developers, etc, and has raised the bar for WWDC 2013 which will start on June 10.

Google has strategically placed I/O’s with only a month before WWDC and sent the ball into the court now to Apple to be doing an event at least as spectacular. Apple is preparing to submit iOS 7, OS X 10.9, perhaps new versions of the Mac, but further than that nobody knows if Apple has something amazing. In general WWDC was seen as a very important event in Apple’s hardware, the company’s strategy has changed, but the attention it remained, all tickets priced at $1,600 was sold it in just two minutes.

Given that the world’s eyes are fixed on Apple in the evening of June 10, would the Company manage to present at least as many interesting things as Google? It’s hard to say, it’s possible to see news about Apple Maps, it is possible to see news about Siri, definitely we will see many new things about the iOS 7 and OS X 10.9, but without a new iPhone the world will remain somewhat disappointed. Google has shown that to keep developers and users happy is the need for innovation, the implementation of the news, now remains to be seen whether Apple will make a more interesting WWDC than last year when iOS 6 hasn’t shined.

Facebook for iOS Updated With New Options For Pictures And Better Performance

Yesterday Facebook updated its application for the iOS platform, the new version bringing more options image viewer software module and enhancements for Events and Places for the iPhone version.

The most useful new options changes are occurring when viewing an image. In addition to these options already for comment or Like tagging, Facebook 6.1 offers the possibility of saving or sharing the image and if it is your own images you can also set them as user profile image.

In the case of the iPhone version, the new Facebook version offers better possibilities of editing things from Places and loading faster the Events, the latter being a welcome improvement.

Not listed in the list of changes is the group messaging option that was recently offered to the Web version users.

The company made a small mistake when initially updated this application, the original 6.1 (image shown below) is actually a Beta product that uses a different icon and have a new menu in the bottom of the screen which provides buttons to News Feed, messaging and notifications. It has been replaced by the 6.1.1 version, which uses the same design already known, being not clear if Facebook is preparing a new interface or it was just an interface used during development.

Sharp Is Preparing To Start Production Of Retina Displays For iPhone 5S

Despite the fact that Sharp puts hopes in Samsung to save it from bankruptcy, Retina displays for the iPhone 5S is expected to enter production in the Asian company next month. The information comes from the people at Reuters, who in recent days have spoken about the problems that Sharp encounters, and about the management steps the company takes to save it from bankruptcy. Sharp stopped production in January for the 9.7 inch screens for the iPad, but Apple still needs Retina Displays for iPhones, so they are keeping Sharp as a partner.

In January, Sharp had to curtail production of 9.7-inch iPad screens, hurting output levels and threatening its recovery in profitability. The Japanese company is preparing to begin large-scale production next month of screens for Apple’s next iPhone model, the sources said.

Information on the start of production of Retina Displays for iPhone 5S in June is not new, we already knew what some of Apple’s plans, but now we have a new confirmation. If screens enters into production next month, the launch of the iPhone 5S in the fall seems more secure, people from Apple are going to present iOS 7 in the opening keynote of WWDC 2013, operating system being released in beta for developers and tested until September.

iOS 7 – Compatibility With iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

On June 10, iOS 7 will be presented to the whole world by Apple and the first beta version of the operating system will be launched later that evening, or very shortly after. Since it is rumored about the implementation of important changes in the next version of the operating system, probably many of you are wondering on what device you will be able to install it.

Unfortunately for many of you I have bad news, especially if you bought devices more than 2 days ago, Apple can choose to offer the new version of iOS for fewer devices for the idea to increase sales.

It is almost certain that iOS 7 will not run on the iPhone 3GS considering that we are talking about an old terminal of almost 4 years, which unexpectedly run on iOS 6, available since last autumn. Uncertainty is the compatibity with iPod Touch 4G and iPad 2, and here we must look, not on the age of the device, but on the number of models available on the market. If Apple will launch iPod Touch 6G this year, then the iPod Touch 4G will not run on iOS 7, but if they doesn’t launch another model, then can probably maintain the compatibility. In the case of iPad tablets things are more complicated because at the moment iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPad Mini is compatible with iOS 6.

Note that Apple has 4 iPhone models and 4 iPad models running on iOS 6, and this year will remove the old models for the new ones. If things are clear in the case of iPhones, the situation about iPad tablets could be similar. Since iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 will be launched on the market, the iPad 2 is unlikely to be compatible with iOS 7. In autumn there will be 5 tablets compatible with iOS 7 and maintaining compatibility for the iPad 2 will not “encourage” customers to upgrade to a new model, so it is clear that Apple wants to “help” us.

iOS 7 – This Is How A Trial System Could Work For App Store

For years users ask Apple to implement a system were App Store applications to be tested before being purchased, but unfortunately the U.S. Company refused to do so. To highlight a simple method that can provide this functionality since iOS 7, a developer thought to present a concept for iOS 7 of the whole system in action. Basically developers could choose as their applications to be available in trial version for 1/7/30 days, and after the expiration of that term application would become inaccessible until its purchase.

Developers can choose whether to allow a trial of 1, 7 or 30 days, or to disallow trials all together, on a per-app basis. For those apps that allow trials, the App Store would show a “Try for 7 days” button alongside “Buy app”. If you install the trial app, it gets flagged with a “Trial” flag over the icon, in a similar way to the “New” flag that was introduced in iOS 6.

Application installed in your terminal as a trial would have a special mark that would indicate that it is fitted for the test, and during its running it has displayed a banner that says how many days we can try the application. By trial’s end, the application would have posted a mark called Expired, it will not be accessible, and another trial will not be started for the same application on the same Apple ID. Developer’s idea is very good and I’m sure many people would love to see the system implemented in the App Store, but there is a very big problem.

The trial applications should have full functionality, although it would be accessible for a limited period of time, and their piracy would be much, much simpler than in the past. Apple must think of a highly complex system for protecting applications in the system, but until this will be developed, it remains just a good idea.

Apple Is Preparing Major Changes To Apple Care And Its Warranty System

Apple Care is premium service were Apple offers customers the opportunity to protect their products through a special warranty that allows them to change/repair the damaged products in almost any conditions. At a meeting held on the Apple campus, a vice president announced the technical team about some major changes that will be implemented in Apple Care from the fall. The most important of them is being able to repair iPhones and other devices directly in Apple stores, and eventually those of authorized resellers.

“The biggest announcement, was the way repairs for iPhones will be handled soon,” the person, who asked not to be identified due to their active status as an Apple employee, told AppleInsider. “The way it is now, if almost anything is wrong with an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, the entire device is exchanged for a like-new re manufactured (sic) device, whether brought into an apple store or sent in for mail in repair. Now we are starting to actually repair the products and return the same device to the customer.”

Currently any completely damaged devices are replaced by Apple, but the new policy requires to repair them by replacing in-store perishable components, including screens. The new rules would save up to $1 billion annually for Apple and is a major change, since users will not receive the new terminal instead, but receive the same terminal, but repaired. Apart from this change, Apple plans to change the way that Apple Care works, that guarantee will not be acquired for each product, but can be purchased as a warranty plan that covers multiple products simultaneously.

All these changes will be implemented starting from the fall, and Americans will be the first to benefit by them. Gradually Apple stores and resellers around the world will likely apply the same rules, but there is no timeline yet for the release.

iOS 7 – Jony Ive’s Changes Will Substantially Affect The User Experience of Native Applications

Last week we learned that Jony Ive is preparing to completely change our concept about iOS 7 and its native applications but today a former Apple employee, Ben Thompson, reminds us that changes will be substantial. Jony Ive controls the team that develops ‘human’ interface applications and the operating system, and this means that the user experience of iOS 7 will be profoundly changed by Ive, and we will fully feel these changes.

But there are a lot of product attributes that don’t have those sorts of measures. Product attributes that are more emotive and less tangible. But they’re really important. There’s a lot of stuff that’s really important that you can’t distill down to a number.

And I think one of the things with design is that when you look at an object you make many many decisions about it, not consciously, and I think one of the jobs of a designer is that you’re very sensitive to trying to understand what goes on between seeing something and filling out your perception of it.

Although at first glance it looks like Jony Ive is just planning to change the iOS 7 design, changes introduced by him include application functionality and here nobody said anything about what exactly are we going to see. We know that we are going to see major changes, we know that they will impress us even from the presentation, but unfortunately we do not know exactly what this major change from Apple is.

Despite this, we should not expect to see everything the concepts demonstrate, ie do not expect to see widgets, multitasking new systems, or other such things.
